Yes, short distances. Without a working upstream O2 sensor, the engine runs in open loop and burns more fuel. Extended open-loop running increases emissions and fuel costs. Fix within a week.

What it means

The upstream oxygen sensor on bank 1 (before the catalytic converter) monitors the exhaust oxygen content so the ECM can adjust fuel delivery. P0130 is a general circuit fault: the sensor signal is not behaving as expected. This code covers several sub-faults. On a cold engine, the sensor takes up to two minutes to heat up to operating temperature. If it never heats up, or its heater circuit has failed, P0130 is often the first code that sets. A heated sensor that takes too long to become active is a common starting point.

A working upstream sensor should switch rapidly between 0.1V and 0.9V when warm. A flat line, or one that only shows activity after several minutes, indicates a dead heater or failed element.
